pouvoart

When an official art is adopted, consecrated, recognized, supported, promoted by the State and, in more extreme cases, the only one allowed, it becomes an instrument of propaganda and ideology. This occupation of the artistic scene tends to erase and make invisible the art that does not match the criteria of official art.

memoart

The Art of Memory (Ars memoriae), also called the method of loci or method of places, is a mnemonic method practiced since antiquity. It is mainly used to memorize long lists of ordered items. It is based on the memory of places already well known, to which, by various means, we associate the new elements we wish to memorize.

The art of believing in nothing? followed by? Book of the Three Impostors

Unknown authors, Rivages poche / Petite bibliothèque (2002). Edition compiled and prefaced by Raoul Vaneigem.

These two works, which are said to have circulated clandestinely for a long time in manuscript form before reappearing around 1668 and 1713, show the existence of libertine and impious thought at a time when religion reigned supreme.

“There were three who, by their sect and their dogma, deceived the world: Moses, Jesus, Muhammad. Moses, the first, duped the Jewish people; the second, Jesus Christ, the Christians; the third, Muhammad, the pagans.” (Henri de Tournai / 1201 – late 13th century)

THE ART OF SEEING Author: HUXLEY ALDOUS Publisher: PAYOT-RIVAGES ?Genre: PRACTICAL BOOKS ?Format: PAPERBACK

Almost blind at the age of sixteen, Aldous Huxlay (1894 – 1963) lived until 1939 with very poor eyesight. It was then that he discovered the method of Dr. W. H. Bates, a psychologically based method of visual re-education, which enabled him, in a few months, to read without glasses. Out of gratitude to this pioneer of visual education, Aldous Huxley wrote The Art of Seeing.

The year 70 is a pivotal year between IVF and the “fivette”: with the fivette, there is a plan to have a child. Currently there are two methods of artificial reproduction: artificial insemination and IVF, where the gametes of an egg and a sperm are brought together.

These two techniques have existed for a long time—already in the Middle Ages for horse breeding. At the end of the 19th century, tubal surgery was also performed. In 1978 the first “fivette” was created, called Louise Brown; in 1985 in France, Amandine. At the end of the 80s, egg retrieval via the vagina was carried out. In 1990 came the first preimplantation diagnoses: checking whether the embryo carries pathologies.

Animal experimentation has brought little to these problems. But human experience serves the animal. Today we have moved from female infertility to male infertility. 60% of IVF is done because of male infertility. The average age for IVF is 34. The future lies in embryo selection: we will be able to produce a hundred embryos for a couple.

interogatoart American psychologists reflect on whether it is appropriate to take part in Guantanamo interrogations

Monday, August 20, 2007 by Jsf

The largest group of psychologists in the United States must decide on Sunday what role its members can play in questioning suspects at Guantanamo and at other American military detention centers.

The American Psychological Association (APA), meeting for its annual gathering in San Francisco, must choose between two measures regarding the participation of its 148,000 members in military interrogations.

One of the proposals, supported by the APA’s leadership committee, would reaffirm the group’s opposition to torture and ban its members from taking part in more than a dozen specific practices, including forced nudity or simulated drownings.

histoart Like any story, the history of art began with the Fable. In most civilizations, a myth sets out the origin of techniques and traditional forms: in the Greek world, the story of Daedalus serves as an introduction to all architecture, that of Pygmalion to the powers of sculpture…

… The history of art, intended to be popular, above all retains the extraordinary episodes that celebrate exceptional personalities such as Giotto, Caravaggio, Cézanne, Picasso. Outside these fictions, there could be no question, in Greek antiquity and up to the Alexandrian period, of giving artists a special status: the sculptor, the painter are craftsmen, socially ranked rather low, whose Platonic philosophy expressly condemns the “modern” pursuit of illusionism and attachment to sensible forms.[…]

Lot Notes If the factory was the place to which Léger’s imagination had been most strongly attached at the end of the First World War, and the interior of the home the one where the painter located the celebrations of peace regained after the war, from the beginning of the 1920s his most significant pictorial narratives unfold in a purely mental space, both abstract and concrete. One of his major works painted in 1928, The Black Profile, is, as its eponymous silhouette suggests, a painting about the workings of the mind and the senses (around 1928, Léger painted many works whose central motif is a profile).

Territory of art or art of the territory? A meeting around involvement projects: artists / territories / inhabitants

Thursday 20 and Friday 21 March 2008 Maison du Parc de Capèle – Capdenac-Gare (12)

For several years now, “new” forms of artistic or cultural projects have been developing, characterized by weaving particular links between artists and territories (geographical or imaginary, real or symbolic…) and their inhabitants. …These artists’ projects are part of our daily lives, taking into account our geographical, architectural, social, historical realities… whether real or fantasized. By integrating a different approach and a longer period of presence than that of the “simple” dissemination of a show, these artists also choose to offer us a different relationship to creation and artistic dissemination, recreating or adapting their proposal for each specific context. Unique proposals or creations based on partially reproducible protocols, these forms are, by essence, always singular, as much as what they generate. The creative process each time integrates the specific context, taking into account the particular relationships existing with the ground of creation, the time of its realization, as well as the different partners of the project (artists, audiences, organizers, elected officials… and inhabitants).

purgatoart CULTURE 2009-08-28 at 06:54 Fluxus, or the art of purgatory

Exhibition. In Paris, a selection of works representative of this movement born in 1961.

… Suddenly, the Fluxus summer

Passage de Retz, 9, rue Charlot, 75003. Until September 20. Daily 10 AM-7 PM except Monday. €8. Info: 01 48 04 37 99 or www.passagederetz.com

The Fluxus movement was a great producer of slogans. “Art is what makes life more interesting than art” (Robert Filliou). “Everything is art except frogs” (Charles Dreyfus). “To keep producing paintings in 1971, you really have to be an idiot” (title and main content of a “painting” by Robert Erebo). A grandson of Dada born in the early 60s, Fluxus was (is?) a new attempt to definitively blow up art, which was not much more effective than the previous ones, but at least the terrorists will have had a good time, as can be seen at the Passage de Retz.

The Museum of Hunting and Nature has recently reopened after years of colossal work. It has taken over a new mansion in the Marais, doubled its exhibition space, and gained a comfortable auditorium… Fine. But should we rush there for all that? The danger of a thematic collection is that it bores the layperson. So imagine a hunting cabinet! As dull as a… hunters’ dinner! Bird calls, horns, piboles silenced; displays of pikes, daggers and boar spears; powder flasks like strings of kidneys, and on the racks, wheel-lock arquebuses, flintlock rifles, all of them, from the blunderbuss to the popgun, assembled in learned order… And their compulsively taxidermied victims.

Next Friday, a special evening will be held, organized by Cabernet d’Anjou and supported by Emmanuel de Brantes.??Emmanuel de Brantes loves wine, and especially Cabernet d’Anjou. Cabernet d’Anjou returns the favor, since it has offered him the chance to take part this year in an original and playful project. ?On March 20, 20 edible works of art will be presented in 20 Parisian venues in the Marais. Four artists from his gallery, Studio 55 , have therefore worked on this concept. Followers of the urban scene, this “ephemeral” aspect of art is familiar to them: as with graffiti, once the work is finished, it ultimately has no owner and its lifespan remains relatively short.??Dran, Popay, Jean Faucheur and Sich have taken up the challenge and set about producing 5 works each, grouped under 5 specific themes: gift from the sky, Bacchus’ cake, bite me, the greedy lips. Their work will be unveiled on Friday evening in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris. The selected venues will all be dressed up for the occasion and will offer a tasting of Cabernet. ??Come and discover the work of these artists through an initiatory route through the trendy bars of the Marais district.

Goodbye Guy

It is with sadness that our association has just lost one of its members: the painter Guy Chaperon. He had the pleasure of exhibiting his works in late December/early January 2009. He always worked with a concern for detail and precision; his paintings and his talent were the subject of an article in the newspaper l’Union not long ago. We are happy to have crossed his path…
